By popular demand, more Jewish history in a nutshell. An extension of last semester’s course, we will examine the following topics: The Balfour Declaration (1917), the White Papers (1922-1939), Protocols of the Elders of Zion (1903), Birobidzhan (1920's), the Open Door Closes (1925), Mordecai Kaplan (1934 on), The Exodus and Illegal Aliyah (1947) and Operation Magic Carpet (1949-50). In addition to the factual matter, we will discuss causes, consequences and what we can learn from these highlights (and lowlights) of history.
